Giesse was unable to convey product information correctly.
The catalog was articulated and the products, due to their characteristics, varied with a certain frequency and for this reason it was difficult to guarantee a continuous updating of the data.
They were characterized according to their shape, their size and the type of material that was used.
The graphics were also quite complex.
At Giesse it had become indispensable to seek a flexible tool for a more effective and immediate communication of products.
The platform had to guarantee the publication of the paper catalog, the website and the tablet.
The environment also had to be extended for price lists and technical data sheets.

The product information structure is now completely reorganized.
The project started from the study of product variants, taking into account their extensibility and variability.
Each type of product has different peculiar characteristics, and therefore different organizational logics.
The specialized catalog was created and targeted in language variants and configuration variants.
Two different solutions have been created for the web and the tablet: Business to Consumer and Business to Business.

Working in the old way, an info you fished from InDesign, another from Word, it took a long time. Gathering data for the new catalog was really like going to the bazaar or the market: everyone makes noise, everything hangs, everyone takes things but then they don’t put them back, scattered information… Now EKR works like a boutique where everything is in place, the order follows you, everything is neat and precise.
At first it was a bit difficult because we were “forced” to fix all the data.
If the work is already very schematic you are immediately well, otherwise aligning with the system is not easy . We weren’t used to cataloging everything so precisely, but it was good! Today we are excited, especially for the updates: it takes more concentration, but when you did the data I am okay forever and everywhere!
For example two weeks ago they asked me to update 190 product sheets: it took me half a day, including the translations. Without EKR running like crazy I would have taken 20 minutes for each card (so 63 hours!!! n.d.R.), and even with the risk of making mistakes!
I would never go back, working with copy and paste doesn’t make sense. A graphic designer with EKR can do a technical document – manual or catalog – well and quickly, so then he has time to really think and create, and he can do more than that!

We were forced to order!
EKR has made us an involuntary service: we have been forced to reorganize all the product information scattered in the various company containers. It was a hard and important job that brought us many satisfactions.
The main challenge of the EKR system in my opinion is cultural. Being always used to managing things in a certain way, the rock is not easy. Two years ago we were perfectly aware of the company. It is not easy to ask the working group: instead of writing in Word, you can enter the data in this EKR cell? The doubt is … why? I have always done so. The biggest difficulty was the very idea of change.
We said ok, we embark. More than two years ago not everyone was really convinced, also because at the beginning we proceed slowly. The passage in this world has been long. But now we see the fruits and we see that we have built more solid bases than we had before. We were brave! Just like facing a journey … and it’s not over yet!

Before EKR?
It took us 8 hours to make an instruction booklet: now we only need one hour, even less! We could not keep up with production, which is primary for us: a boiler cannot leave without specific documents and he can’t wait even an hour. EKR solved huge time problems.
Our booklets are many, with various customisations diversified by market and by customer, and with the need for continuous updates, especially regulatory ones. With the old method in InDesign we had to correct the same data by opening and modifying fifty different documents! Having a single database and having to update just that makes the difference.
Another advantage was to standardize the collection of all product info. Before we met every week, we collected data from different files, emails, phone calls and meetings. Today it is a much more streamlined process, the various information arrives ordered by each competent office, and the connections are faster. Tomorrow? We hope we can no longer even control the final publication because we are already sure of the accuracy of the data … we can do it!

Fassa Bortolo is a historic brand in the world of construction, leader in Italy and one of the most successful internationally.
The company already had SAP.
Fassa Bortolo worked with a previous system which, however, could not satisfy the communication needs.
Even if the graphics were not complex and the products simple to describe, it was not easy to convey all the information relating to the products in an immediate way.
The company needed to find an integrated environment to contain all product information.
The goal in Fassa Bortolo was to organize all the data for a paper and web publication.
With EKR-PE Fassa Bortolo is collecting all product data by replacing what was already present in the previous system.
All information is entered in the EKR-PE platform except the codes which are taken from SAP.
Thanks to EKR-PE the information is organized for a paper publication with product sheets and in the future for a web publication.
